This function is only available to customers with dedicated instances. Only a SuperAdmin user has access to Configuration
.
To configure Etlworks, open Configuration
and select a category in the left navigation bar.
Configure appearance and links
Select General
to configure the appearance, links, and default email addresses.
You can change the following along with other parameters:
- The application name (the default is Etlworks)
- The company logo (large, small, and override for the blue-on-blue color themes)
- The default color scheme
Configure email
This is required for adding new users, resetting passwords, and sending email notifications.
Etlworks uses SMTP to send email notifications.
Select Mail
to configure the SMTP server parameters for sending email notifications.
Etlworks support the following email configurations:
- Custom SMPT - works with most SMTP server which support username+password authentication.
- GMail - works with gmail and Google Workspace mail. Requires OAuth authentication with Google.
- Office365 - works with Office 365 mail. Requires OAuth authentication with Microsoft.
Custom SMTP
Select Custom SMTP
inType
. Enter SMTP server parameters.
Gmail
Select Gmail as the Type. Enter the sender email address in the Email field. Click Sign in with Google and ensure you use the same account entered in the Email field.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to sign in with the same account as entered in Email
.
To send emails using the Gmail API instead of SMTP (recommended for enhanced security), check the Use Gmail API checkbox.
Note: Google now disables SMTP authentication by default. If you still need to use SMTP, you must explicitly enable “Less secure app access” in your Google account settings, although this approach is strongly discouraged by Google.
Office 365
Select Office 365 as the Type. Enter the sender email address in the Email field. Click Sign in with Microsoft and ensure you use the same account entered in the Email field.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to sign in with the same account as entered in Email.
Note: Microsoft now disables SMTP authentication by default. If you still need to use SMTP, you must explicitly enable Authenticated SMTP in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under Users → Active users → (select user) → Mail → Manage email apps, although this approach is strongly discouraged by Microsoft.
Switching between Graph API and SMTP requires re-authentication, as different security scopes are required for each method.
Testing email configuration
Click Send test mail
to test the SMPT configuration.
Configure network
Please contact Etlworks support before making any changes in this category.
Select Network
to configure how the service works in case there is a multi-node cluster deployment.
Configure flows
Select Flows
section in the configuration screen to configure how the system behaves when running, designing, and testing flows.
Configure number of displayed and log records
Set the maximum number of records that will be displayed when the user clicks Test transformation. You can also change the default value for number of logged records during ETL transformations.
Configure inspection service
The flow inspection service is designed to analyze and identify potential performance bottlenecks and structural issues within executed flows. Learn about inspection service.
End-users can configure the maximum severity level of issues reported by the service.
The configuration for the inspection service can be accessed through the Settings|Flows
section of the UI. Users can choose to only report issues of a specific severity level (e.g., Major, Critical) or not report any issues at all. The default value is Do not report
.
To enable the service set Minimum Severity Level to Report
to the value other than Do not report
.
Truncate Exception Details in Error Notifications
By default, when a scheduled flow fails, the full exception stack trace is included in the email notification. To make these notifications easier to read and reduce clutter, you can enable the global setting “Truncate exception in failed flow email notification” under Settings → Flows. When this option is enabled, only the error description and message will be included in the email, without the full stack trace. This setting is disabled by default and must be manually turned on. Once enabled, it applies to all on-error notifications sent by scheduled flows running on both the host instance and Integration Agents.
Suspending and Resuming flow executions
User can suspend and resume flow executions under this section.
Configure listeners
Select Listeners
to configure asynchronous POST/PUT Listener requests throttling and queuing.
Configure Explorer
Select Explorer
to configure
- The maximum number of records which can be displayed in the Etlworks Explorer,
- The maximum number of items that can be displayed in the SQL history
- The
Data structure sample records
which controls how many records the ETL engine will sample to determine columns and data type when reading the metadata for the connection. This parameter is not used when retrieving the metadata for the database connections.
Configure timezone
Select Timezone
to configure the server and account timezone.
Configure maintenance tasks
Select Maintenance
to configure maintenance tasks.
Configure global search
Select Search
to configure global search parameters.
-
Max Results
: the maximum number of search results to return. The default is 20.
Configure Security
Select Security
to configure Export/Import Encryption and SSO.
Export/Import Encryption
In Etlworks it is possible to export and import flows, connections and formats. By default the export files are encrypted by built-in symmetric RSA key. You can upload your own symmetric RSA key and the system will use it to encrypt and decrypt the export files. The key can have an optional Passphrase.
Notes
- Export files encrypted by built-in key can be imported into environment with configured custom key.
- Export files encrypted by the custom key cannot be imported into environment with a standard built-in key.
SSO
Single sign-on (SSO) allows you to give your team members one account for all of the systems your business uses. If you have an Etlworks Enterprise or on-premise account and have SSO set up for your business, you can require users to log in to Etlworks using their SSO credentials.
The following SAML identity providers are supported:
- Active Directory Federation Service (ADFS).
- Azure Active Directory (AD).
- Google Apps.
- Salesforce.
- IBM ISAM
- OKTA.
- Onelogin.
- Auth0.
Contact Etlworks support at support@etlworks.com to configure SSO for your Enterprise or on-premise account. Read about configuring SSO with Azure AD as an identity provider.
After Etlworks support configures your Identity Provider in the SSO provider solution you will receive SSO Login and Logout URLs and Certificate that you need to configure under Settings -> Security.
Allow API key authentication
The API key can be used to authenticate the user when making a call to the user-defined and built-in API. The API key can be generated and assigned to the user with any role, including Super Admin. The system administrator can disable API keys for roles other than API user. The API keys are enabled for all roles by default.
